Regarding the Astronomy ProgramDiscover the Universe at Foothill College
The Astronomy Department at Foothill College offers talk and research center classes with stargazing teacher Dr. Geoff Mathews. Courses in nearby planet group and heavenly stargazing furnish you with a non-specialized prologue to the universes with which we share our planetary group, the life and passing of stars, the development of cosmic systems, and the advancement of the universe.

Dr. Mathews drives the Foothill AstroSims project, which intends to support the current pool of astro-instruction reenactments just as growing new recreations covering beforehand ignored subjects. Our long-lasting employee Andrew Fraknoi resigned in June 2017.

Degree and Program Types

The Foothill College Observatory

The Silicon Valley Astronomy Lecture Series
Established in 1999, the Silicon Valley Astronomy Lecture Series addresses are introduced on six Wednesday nights during each school year at Foothill College. Speakers over the course of the years have included Nobel-prize champs, individuals from the National Academy of Sciences and numerous other notable researchers clarifying cosmic advancements in ordinary language.

The series, directed by Foothill College Astronomy educator emeritus Andrew Fraknoi, is supported by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, the Space Facilities Management , the University of California Observatories, and Foothill College. Points range from the investigation of the planets to the accelerating of the extending universe; from planets around different stars to dark openings at the focuses of far off cosmic systems.

Addresses are free to the overall population, and video adaptations of the talks (beginning February 2013) are accessible on the talk series YouTube Channel. Free sound documents (digital recordings) of the talks from 2005 through 2017 are accessible through some webcast web-based features.

The Peninsula Astronomical Society
The Peninsula Astronomical Society holds its gatherings on the grounds of Foothill College at 7:30 p.m. on the second Friday of every month in room 5015 close to Parking Lot 5. There is a $3 charge for stopping – guest stopping licenses are accessible from the machines in the parking garages (see map).
